ABOUT US
Background
We are a collective of planning professionals and urbanists with a common interest in heritage preservation and sustainable development. Our journey began through the Bazar Abbas: Recovery Lab of Port Said project (hyperlink). Embracing the values of inclusive urbanism, we are committed not only to sharing the outcomes but also to the process itself. By doing so, we aim to reach individuals and organisations with a shared concern for the recovery and regeneration of historic cities.
We recognize the unique challenges and opportunities in post-conflict urban contexts, and our aim is to collaboratively address them through integrated approaches encompassing urban conservation, community engagement, social integration, economic revitalization, and environmental considerations.
Building upon the expertise of the team as well as the knowledge and insights gained from the Bazar Abbas project, Urban Recovery Lab endeavors to extend its collaboration efforts to other cities in the MENA region where conflicts and crises continue to pose significant challenges to urban environments. Our aim is to collaboratively address them through the framework of integrated urban conservation and development with a primary focus on heritage-led recovery and regeneration. Central to our mission is a strong emphasis on community engagement, as we believe in empowering and involving local residents at the heart of our efforts.
